Manik Sarkar: By Polls warm exercise, unite to resist BJP

Agartala: Leader of the opposition and politburo member Manik Sarkar on Saturday exhorted the Left supporters across the state to unite and put collective effort to ensure BJP’s ouster from Tripura. Sarkar, who termed the BJP as a “fascist force”, said society will be devoid of their democratic rights as long as the BJP was at the helm of affairs.

“The whole idea of India is in danger. The people who are ruling the country do not believe in the Indian Constitution and measures are afoot to destroy some key components of the Constitution that define the country. We must not let that happen. We have to keep our eyes and ears open,” said Sarkar.

According to Sarkar, the situation in Tripura is no different. “Democratic rights of citizens are being throttled, people are struggling for work in rural hamlets, the MGNREGA funds are being misappropriated by the BJP leaders. Starvation is looming large in distant areas. Does the ruling party care? The anger is brewing; the outburst is inevitable. We all have to wage a collective battle against these forces and restore democracy in the state,” said Sarkar.

On the ensuing by-elections, Sarkar said that the forthcoming by-elections were a “warm up” for the conclusive fight of 2023 elections.

“There is no retreat; a series of fights are in the line up. The by-elections are just a warm-up for the conclusive battles. Unite and stage protests against the ruling dispensation. Intensive resistance is the only option left. Go to the villages, talk to the people and organize them for the bigger movement in the offing. It does not matter whether you are holding the Red flag or not, your only task is to motivate people and help channelize their anger in a proper way,” he added.

Sarkar was addressing a public meeting organized as a prelude to the 15th CITU state Conference at Agartala.
