Biplab Deb's resignation as CM validates BJP-led govt in Tripura non-performing: TMC
Former Chief Minister of Tripura, Biplab Deb.

Agartala: Senior Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman said the Congress will soon file a PIL before the Tripura High Court, seeking explanation as to how former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb is entitled to all the facilities and privileges that he once enjoyed as chief minister.

The Congress leader hit out at the former chief minister for availing the ‘VIP’ facilities, which, according to rules, shouldn’t have been accorded to him. He said, “The hard-earned money of the taxpayers is being misused to ensure that Deb gets all the ‘VIP facilities’ akin to a Chief Minister.”

Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan, Agartala, Barman said, “On May 13 last, when Biplab Kumar Deb was the Chief Minister of Tripura, District Magistrate of Gomati district received an intimation from the CM’s office for necessary arrangements for a series of programmes to be held in a number of RD blocks. As per the documents, we have in our possession, the entire programme was planned for the Chief Minister.”

“Accordingly, on May 18, the District Magistrate of Gomati district held a meeting where officials of all the departments were entrusted with specific responsibilities for smooth and effective conduct of the events in various rural development blocks of Ampi, Amarpur and Udaipur under the same district. Interestingly, the designation of chief guest of the events has been replaced by former Chief Minister in place of Chief Minister,” Barman said.

Barman further added, “All the necessary arrangements for the events are being made by the departments like Rural Development, PWD and Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited. And, all this information has been forwarded to higher authorities like the office of Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and Director General of Police. But none of them have spoken a single word on this gross violation of the protocols. The administration, in no way, accords an MLA such VIP treatment.”

Accusing Deb of looting the public exchequer to satisfy his own political goals, Barman said, “On behalf of the Congress party, I am soon going to file a PIL with the high court, seeking explanation on how a mere MLA can enjoy such lavish life.”

According to Barman, the transport department has already informed the airport authorities that the state government is not going to bear the expenses of Deb’s helicopter rides.

The former minister also questioned the silence of Leader of the Opposition Manik Sarkar on the matter.

We all know he (Manik Sarkar) shares a good personal bond, but I don’t feel any personal relationship should be continued at the cost of the people who have given him the responsibility of asking questions to the government,” said Barman, urging Sarkar to rise above personal relationship.

“We feel either Deb is trying to prove that present CM Manik Saha is a puppet in his hand or it is an established fact,” he concluded.

TPCC president Birajit Sinha and former MLA Asish Saha were also present an the press conference.
