Agartala: Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Saturday survived a chopper breakdown as the helicopter he had boarded from MBB airport, developed a technical snag during take off.

Following the technical fault, the pilot did not complete the take-off procedure to avert any untoward incident. Deb was supposed to attend a pre-scheduled event at Chandipur, Kailashahar under the Unakoti district, which was eventually cancelled.

Deb along with officials reached the airport this morning to board the helicopter. But, soon after Deb went onboard the chopper started malfunctioning. Airport sources said the aircraft failed to catch the desired air pressure to complete the take-off process.

Deb and his security personnel waited at the airport lobby to get the technical problems fixed. But, eventually, Deb cancelled his tour.

According to a highly-placed source, it is a part of the protocol to keep the chopper ready whenever there is an official tour. It is a matter of sheer negligence that needs to be looked into, the source added.

“An inquiry into the matter may be initiated,” an airport source said.
