Udaipur: One person was killed and two others were injured following a shooting in the Jatanbari Dumbur area under Natun Bazar police station in Gomati district of Tripura on Friday.

According to police, a group of miscreants opened fire on three persons, killing one fish trader on the spot and injuring two in the Babultila area in the middle of Jatanbari Dumbur road.

Upon receiving the news, a large police force led by the Gomati District Additional Superintendent of Police rushed to the spot. 

“The deceased was identified as Shitan Das (43). The injured were identified as Jiten Das (48) and Litan Das (36). The three were initially identified as members of the same family,” the police said.

According to the police officer, when the three were taken to Jatanbari Hospital, the doctor declared Shital Das dead and transferred Jiten Das to Udaipur Tripura Sundari Hospital. Doctors released Litan Das after initial treatment as his injuries were minor.

Meanwhile, the locals blocked the Amarpur-Karbook road at Jatanbari in the morning, demanding arrest and punishment of the culprits. 

The traffic in both directions is disrupted. Upon receiving the news, a large police force rushed to the spot and tried to convince the blockaders.

Later, Amarpur MLA Ranjit Das visited the blockade and held talks with the blockaders, promising to arrest the culprits and provide exemplary punishment, after which the road blockade was lifted.

The police have detained two persons in this connection and are questioning them on suspicion of involvement in the incident. Meanwhile, the locals on Saturday blocked a road in protest.

The AIGP of Tripura police, Subrata Chakraborty said that Chayan Kumar Chakma (24) and Ranjit Tati (31) were arrested in connection with the incident. A preliminary investigation has revealed that the incident was out of personal enmity.
