Agartala: Leaders and members of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) gheraoed the East Agartala police station on Monday over the attack on youth leader Santanu Saha.

TMC members also staged a demonstration outside the police station over the alleged negligence of the police in taking strict action against the perpetrators. Slogans against the police were also raised during the protest.

Alleging that the police did not take any step even 48 hours of the attack, party convener Subal Bhowmik said, “They will arrest if Biplab Deb asks them to; they will do nothing if he stops them.”

“They have had no regard for the khaki in the past three-and-a-half-years,” Bhowmik said.

Representatives of the party later met Sub-divisional Police Officer Dr Ramesh Yadav following which a time frame of 72 hours was decided upon to take necessary action.

“We have received a complaint and have filed an FIR under Section 325 and the Arms Act. We have also collected the CCTV footage of the routes and the place of occurrence. We are analyzing the footage. Since the people are unknown, we are trying to identify them,” Yadav said while speaking to the media.

The TMC’s youth leader was allegedly attacked by 5 to 6 motorcycle-borne miscreants on October 15. He is currently undergoing treatment at GB Hospital in the state’s capital.
