Agartala: Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman will arrive in Tripura on a two-day visit from August 27 to inaugurate several projects and hold meetings with the state government.

This will be Sitharaman’s first visit to Tripura since the BJP-IPFT government came to power in March 2018. This also comes at a time amidst growing dissidence in the ruling BJP party.

During her visit to the state, Nirmala Sitharaman will hold meetings with the ministers, senior government officials and review Emergency Assistance Projects (EAP) on August 27.

Earlier, her visit was scheduled on August 18 to attend Maharaja Bir Bikram Jayanti but was postponed following an urgent cabinet meeting in Delhi over the Afghanistan crisis.

The senior minister will also visit a COVID Care Centre at Gandhigram on the outskirts of Agartala to oversee the vaccination process.

Later in the afternoon, Nirmala Sitharaman will inaugurate 11 projects worth Rs 151 crore. These projects include a 132 KV sub-station at Mohanpur, constructed under North Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project (NERPSIP) and funded by World Bank (Rs 38.03 crore)

Sitharaman will also inaugurate 80,000 functional household tap connections provided under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) along with 132 drinking water supply schemes built at a project cost Rs 66 crore.
