Agartala: Amid a surge in COVID-19 cases in the state, the Tripura government has taken a special initiative to vaccinate those above 18 years of age across the state. Special immunisation camps will be held next week in all civic bodies and ADC areas.

During the review meeting on Friday, chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb directed the health officials to use 2.5 lakh COVID-19 doses for vaccinating those above 18 years of age across all civic bodies and ADC areas within next week.

In Tripura, the number of deaths among the elderly as well as the youth due to coronavirus has gradually increased. One of the reasons for this is the delay in accessing medical services.

However, the health department is not dispelling the argument that young people are dying due to non-vaccination. As a result, the Tripura government has now decided to place special emphasis on vaccinating 18+ age group.

An official from the health department claimed that the youngsters cannot predict the deterioration of their physical condition after being infected with coronavirus.

“It was discussed in the meeting that if someone is infected with coronavirus, it would be advisable to be admitted to Covid Care Center instead of staying in isolation at home. If people do not visit the hospital on time, it is not possible to save them. The health department will insist that people be admitted to hospitals or covid care centers from now on,” the health official said.

“A special immunisation camps will be organized in all urban local bodies and ADC areas in Tripura next week. The camp will be organised by the Tripura government with the aim of completing the immunisation of people above 18 years,” the official added.
