Agartala: The West Tripura district administration has declared wards 5, 21 and 46 of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) as containment zones given the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
All activities within the 2 km radius of the three wards have been banned, and only emergency services will remain operational. The order will be effective from 5 am on May 13 to 6 pm on May 22 next.
The incidence of corona in Tripura is on the rise yet again. West Tripura district, in particular, have been the hardest hit. The district has the highest number of infected people in the whole of Tripura.
Of concern is that the Coronavirus outbreak is highest in the AMC area of West Tripura district. The situation is so dire that even a nightly curfew cannot stop the spread of the disease. As a result, the Tripura government has taken steps to break the chain of corona through ward-based containment zones.
West Tripura District magistrate Raval Hamendra Kumar today issued a notification declaring wards 5, 21 and 46 in the AMC area as containment zones. At present, 11,204 people are living in Ward 5, 11,373 in Ward 21 and 14,400 in Ward 47 of the AMC.
All activities in the three wards have been banned to protect civilians from corona infection. Only daily essential shops are allowed to be open from 5 am to 6 pm. In addition, the order will not apply to health departments, health workers, police administration and those associated with the emergency services.
The West Tripura district magistrate has asked the district superintendent of police to ensure that no gathering of two or more persons in the three wards takes place.
Meanwhile, people with emergency services will only be allowed to enter those wards if they show an identity card. Citizens of the ward will be able to purchase from the shopkeepers identified by the AMC for the supply of daily necessities. Besides, sanitization has to be done in those three wards on AMC at regular intervals.
The district magistrate also ordered that samples from at least one member of each household have to be tested to prevent the spread of corona infection, while the drinking water, health and the power departments have been directed to maintain normal drinking water and electricity services in the three areas.
Besides, the West Tripura district Chief Medical Officer has been directed to ensure compliance with all hygiene norms and other necessary arrangements, while the Sadar sub-divisional magistrate has been asked to ensure barricading, checkpoints in the containment zone.
