Agartala: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) accused Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb of lying about Tripura violence in a press conference on Tuesday.
The chief minister, while addressing a press conference on the post-poll situation in West Bengal, had said that in 2018, the Left Front was defeated in Tripura after 25 years, and the BJP-Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) government was formed here.
There has been no such murder, no such political violence in Tripura since then, said Deb. The CPIM state secretary strongly protested and called the chief minister a liar.
Deb had said that in Tripura, the long-running culture of terror has stopped since the 2018 elections after the BJP-IPFT government came to power.
“On March 3, 2018, the day the Tripura Assembly elections were counted and the results announced, the BJP forces launched a pre-planned massive fascist attack across the state,” the press statement reads.
It also cited that CPIM leaders, activists, supporters freely organise violent criminal offences such as physical assault, murder, arson, house-to-house attack, molestation of mothers and sisters, extortion, destruction of property, etc.
Even after Biplab Deb took over as the chief minister on March 9, 2018, political violence and barbaric fascist attacks have not stopped for a single day till today.
“For the last three years, the leaders, activists and supporters of the opposition in Tripura, the media, the pro-democracy, peace-loving people of the state have been the victims of the brutality of the BJP-IPFT alliance, which has created intense public hatred against the BJP across the country,” the CPIM statement added.
