On being asked to comment on the criticism received over social media, he said, “A lot of misinformation has been spread about the incident. People are alleging that we have given the permission for the wedding and car passes beyond curfew hours and we have intervened illegally. According to Section 144, no marriage hall in Tripura is to function after 10 pm. If marriage permission is given, all rules are to be followed. We haven’t mentioned that you cannot marry post 10 pm. Marry at your own house, not in a marriage hall.”
“The COVID-19 data doesn’t suggest that the situation is normal. The COVID-19 positivity rate is above 5%. We are making sure that in airports and railway stations, 100% COVID-19 testing takes place so that we can save our state. If the positivity rate rises above 10%, ask any doctor, no regulatory frame can control the virus. This is a crucial time to control the situation,” he added.
He goes on to say that due to the carelessness of a few, many others might get infected by the virus later.
