Tripura: Indigenous party demands formation of dist council before Nov 17
Agartala: A delegation of Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra (INPT) has submitted a memorandum to Tripura governor Ramesh Kumar Bais on Friday placing four point charter of demands including conducting election in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) and formation of new council by November 17.
The five members delegation included INPT chief Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl, Jagadish Debbarma, Shib Cahndra Debbarma, Animesh Debbarma, Rabindra Debbarma.
Speaking with EastMojo, Jagadish Debbarma, general secretary, INPT said that the Election Commission of India (ECI) is conducting the elections for Bihar Legislative Assembly in three phases and counting of votes will be taken up on 10 November.
Moreover, ECI recently also announced to conduct bye-election to the vacant assembly and parliamentary seats all over India during covid-19 pandemic.
“If elections can be held in Bihar and other states of India drug this pandemic, there is no reason why the general election of the TTAADC-2020 cannot be held in November 2020”, Debbarma said.
He also demanded to withdraw the sale permission of tribal lands given to 33 applicants recently which goes against the particular provision of the TLR & LR Act 1960.
“The sale permission of Tribal land will open flood gates for others to grab and acquire Tribal land in our state”, Debbarma added.
The INPT leaders also immediately handover Rs 10 lakh to the kin of the COVID-19 victims as announced by the chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb and claimed that most of the families have lost their sole bread earners.
The leaders alleged that a study material published for a distancing education program for 3rd semester, MA political science course, Tripura University has tried detoring the history of Tripura.
“An intentional attempt to distort the history of Tripura has been made. No such thing happened in our history. In the ‘Rajmala’ names of kings of Tripura are or chronologically mentioned. Nowhere was it mentioned in the Rajmala that Hindu Bengali Kings ruled Tripura in the past as claimed about 550 years back. So we demand that appropriate action must be taken against one JD Mandal”, the leaders added.
The TTAADC comprises more than 68% of the total geographical land and is home to one-third of the population of Tripura.
