Tripura board 'Bochor Bachao' exam begins; exam to continue till Oct 22

Agartala: Amidst the outbreak of coronavirus, the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) has started its first ‘Bochor Bachao’ (save year) examinations for students of Class X and Class XII who have failed in two subjects, but the aggregate is secured over 150 marks.

A total of 6,013 students from Class X and 3,301 students from Class XII enrolled for the ‘Bochor Bachao’ examination which began from October 12 and would continue till October 22 next.

“The examination is being conducted following all the Covid-19 protocol and maintaining social distancing. A total of 93 % students from Class 10 and 89 % appeared in the examination on the first day, while on the second day 82 % students from Class X and 88 % from Class XII respectively wrote their exams," education minister Ratan Lal Nath said.

He also said that the 'Bochor Bachao' or 'save the year' scheme was announced earlier this year. Under the new scheme, in case a student fails in two subjects, but the aggregate is secured over 150 marks, he would be given another chance to sit for re-test within 75 days of results after proper coaching from the schools.

“We had planned to hold the examination in September but following the sudden surge in positive cases the schedule was changed by the education department," he said.

The TBSE had announced the results of the Class X in which 69.49 % students passed and results of Class XII (Arts, Commerce and Science) exams on July 31 with an average pass percentage of 80.80% compared to 80.51 last year.

Speaking further Nath said that the admissions in 22 government degree colleges has began, adding: In the first phase, allotment for 13,830 candidates was made comprising 6,585 students for honours course and 7,245 students for pass course.

"A total of 9,623 students have been admitted in various other courses. The merit list of the second phase will be published on October 16," Nath added.

Tripura has a total intake capacity of 54,075 seats in 22 general degree colleges in the state, including 8,446 seats for Science, Humanities and Commerce honours courses.
