Tripura: BJP ally IPFT in Delhi to reprise demand for Tipraland

The IPFT lawmakers to meet the union home minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda and other central leaders

Agartala: Amidst the growing dissidence in the ruling BJP party, a delegation of four MLAs led by forest minister and general secretary of Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) on Wednesday left for Delhi to meet with the central government to place various demands.

Speaking with reporters at MBB airport before departing for New Delhi, Jamatia said that they would meet with the union home minister Amit Shah and also look forward to meeting with the BJP National President JP Nadda during the visit.

The delegation of IPFT comprises of Mevar Kumar Jamatia, Brishketu Debbarma, Dhananjoy Tripura, Sindhu Chandra Jamatia and Prashant Debbarma.

“We have plans to meet the concerned ministers and the BJP national president to discuss various issues in Delhi from 15 to 17 October”, Jamatia said.

He also said that he would discuss with the union minister about formation of a separate state, Tipraland, the publication of the report of the high power modality committee and passing of 125th amendment of the constitution in the parliament among others.

“We would demand to immediately publish the report of the high modality committee immediately, formation of Tipraland in Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) areas, passing of the 125th amendment of the constitution in the parliament”, Jamatia added.

Speaking further he said that the issue of the internally displaced Bru community will also be discussed in the meeting with the union home minister.

The IPFT lawmakers would also meet with the DoNER minister Jitendra Singh, Tribal welfare minister Arjun Munda among other central leadership.

Meanwhile, on October 7 the IPFT announced a 24-hour ‘Bandh’ in TTAADC areas on placing the same demands. The branch organizations under the banner of the IPFT would observe a 24-hour bandh from 6 am on October 15 to 6 am on October 16 next.
