Congress calls for 12-hr Tripura 'bandh' on September 21 against mismanagement
Agartala:Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) on Sunday announced a 12-hour dawn-to-dusk band on September 21 in protest of BJP-IPFT government’s alleged failure and mismanagement of COVID-19.
Addressing a press conference, PCC chief Pijush Kanti Biswas said that a meeting of the PCC leaders was held in the presence of All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary Bhupen Borah and decided to call for a 12-hour bandh on September 21 next.
“The bandh is in protest against the two and a half years of misrule of the BJP-IPFT government, placing nine-point charter of demands to the state government”, Biswas said.
Biswas expressed his dissatisfaction over the role of the present government and said that there is no freedom of speech under the BJP ruling state, adding, “A government cannot run like that. At a time when the people are suffering due to this pandemic and mismanagement of the state government, we are forced to call the 12-hour bandh”, Biswas added.
Biswas demanded immediate release of compensation amount of Rs 10 lakh which was announced by the chief minister for the kin of the COVID-19 victims. He also demanded alternate job employment for the terminated 10,323 teachers group and financial assistance for the families living along the international border.
“People are afraid to visit the state's lone COVID hospital at Govind Ballabh Pant hospital. People are dying without getting treatment. If our demands are not fulfilled, we shall intensify our protest”, Biswas said.
Biswas also claimed that after the Lok Sabha elections party leaders, former MLA Birajit Sinha and Gopal Chandra Roy were attacked, but the police took no action.
AICC secretary, Bhupen Borah, condemned the statement of the chief minister on media persons and said, “I am deeply shocked and taken aback when I saw how a democratically elected CM threatened the fourth pillar of the democracy. In my 30 years of political career, I have never seen such steps and undemocratic behaviour. We condemned such steps of CM”, Borah added.
