A case under section 354 (A) of Indian Penal Code and Section 9 of POCSO Act has been registered by Kumarghat police station

Agartala: The Kumarghat police station has booked a 50-year-old cleaning staff of a COVID Care Centre on charges of alleged molestation of two minor girls, who were undergoing treatment at Panchayat Raj Training Institute (PRTI) in Kumarghat under Unakoti district.

According to Unakoti superintendent of police, Rati Ranjan Debnath, the incident took place in the PRTI COVID Care Centre while the duo are undergoing treatment.

“The minor girls were admitted almost 10 days before they lodged the complaint with the Kumarghat police station on FIR on Friday last. A case under section 354 (A) of Indian Penal Code and Section 9 of POCSO Act has been registered,” Debnath said.

He also said that the minors are undergoing treatment at the COVID Care Centre and their statements would be recorded after they are discharged from the centre.

When contacted with the concerned health official from the Unakoti district, he said that the cleaning staff was removed from his duty soon after they received the complaint against him from the police. The health officials have proposed the authorities to appoint female cleaning staff to avoid such incidents in future.
