Agartala: Amid the growing rift between coalition partners BJP and IPFT in the Tripura government, BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav held a meeting with the senior leaders of the IPFT to defuse the tension ahead of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.

Speaking with EastMojo, IPFT assistant general secretary Mangal Debbarma said that a six-member delegation of IPFT met with the BJP national general to place a seven-point charter of demands.

“We have placed a memorandum to the senior BJP leader demanding for his needful action for a smooth and long lasting coalition of the state government”, Mangal said.

The seven point charter of demands includes ensuring coordination between BJP and IPFT in all levels of organization, inclusion of Kokborok language in the 8th schedule of the ‘Constitution of India’ and releasing of the high level modality committee report, among others.

“Since Kokborok language is also one of the state languages in Tripura over development of Kokborok language should be given utmost priority. The script of Kokborok language is one of the burning issues for the last 4 (tour) decades. The state government had constituted three numbers of Bhasa Commissions for solving the issue of the script, however the issue remains unsolved”, Mangal added.

Speaking further he said that the other demands were to expedite the 125 Constitutional (Amendment) Bill and give utmost priority to start the work of building a medical college at Khumulwng, TTAADC headquarters ahead of polls.

The IPFT leaders also demanded that the approved TTAADC Town Committee Bill by District Council should be placed before the State Cabinet for approval at the earliest and allot one more cabinet berth to IPFT party.

“As per the decision of the coalition government we have demanded that one more berth of the cabinet to be allotted to the IPFT party. The national general secretary has assured us that all our demands would be addressed by the party shortly”, Mangal said.

He also informed that the IPFT leaders have also held discussion over seat share for the TTAADC elections.

“The leadership of both BJP-IPFT will sit and hold discussion over the TTAADC elections shortly. If the outcome of the meeting is not fruitful, we would fight alone in all 28 seats”, Mangal added
