Agartala: Amid the ongoing tension between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally Indigenous Peoples' Front of Tripura (IPFT), BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav is scheduled to arrive in Tripura on a two-day visit from Friday to chair crucial meetings and discuss organisational matters.

Madhav will reach the state at 2 pm at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport, where he will be welcomed by the state party president Dr Manik Saha, general secretaries Papia Dutta and Tinku Roy and agriculture minister Paranajit Singha Roy.

From MBB Airport, he will directly leave for Udaipur to visit Matabari Temple, where he will be accompanied by party president Saha.

"The national general secretary will hold a meeting with all the office bearers at the state office at 6 pm to discuss matters related to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) before meeting with the ministers at the state guest house", said state party vice-president Rajib Bhattacharjee.

He will also attend the dinner at the chief minister’s residence.

Both the meetings are very crucial as the dates of the TTAADC elections are likely to be announced anytime soon as the restrictions for the lockdown ease.

“The meeting will be attended by all top leaders including both Lok Sabha MPs Rebati Tripura and Pratima Bhoumik and ministers to discuss on how to prepare for the ADC elections and intensify the campaigns across the tribal area. A road map for the election will also be placed in front of the national general secretary,” a senior party leader informed EastMojo.

The TTAADC is spread across 68% of the total geographical area of the state and is home to over one-third of the total population of Tripura.

Speaking with EastMojo, Mangal Debbarma, general secretary of IPFT, said that their party leaders would meet the BJP national general secretary to discuss the present situation of state politics. However, the appointment is yet to be finalised.

"We will discuss issues related to TTAADC elections and seat sharing is also likely to be discussed. If the outcome of the meeting is not fruitful, then we shall sit and decide on the next course of action", Debbarma said.

The BJP and IPFT are partners in the coalition government that jointly defeated CPIM in the 2018 general assembly elections.

Of the total 60 seats, the ruling BJP-IPFT coalition government has got 36 seats, of which IPFT has eight, and the opposition CPI-M has 16 seats in Tripura’s legislative assembly.

On Saturday, Ram Madhav will also attend a free fruit distribution programme at Umakanta Academy in Agartala before meeting with all the 10 organizational district presidents at the state BJP office before leaving the state.
