Agartala: A delegation of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) on Wednesday met Rajiv Singh, acting Director General of Police (DGP), demanding immediate arrest of the miscreants who attacked the Kakraban Block Congress committee president on Tuesday.

Speaking with reporters, PCC spokesperson Hare Krishna Bhowmik said that in recent times, attacks on the opposition party workers have been intensified by the ruling BJP backed supporters.

“The Kakraban Block Congress president was brutally assaulted by a group of miscreants following which he was hospitalized at Gomati district hospital. They demanded immediate arrest of those miscreants involved behind this barbaric attack”, Bhowmik said.

A memorandum submitted to the DGP informed that during the last few months several incidents of attack by BJP men took place in different parts of the state on Congress workers and FIRs are filed in different police stations but in no case police took any action against the miscreants.

The letter also cited that on Tuesday, Nitya Gopal Saha was attacked by supporters of the BJP with a view to killing him at Ainbari area of Kakraban, near BDO office, however he was rescued from the place of occurrence by the police.

“Though the incident took place in presence of so many people, they did not come forward to rescue him as they know that they will also not be spared later on and the people started to believe that in no case police will come to protect in which BJP goons are involved,” the letter informed.

The PCC leaders also alleged that the state is going to a stage of complete lawlessness and there is no rule of law in any part of Tripura.

“Every day, there are incidents of murder, attempt to murder, rape, bride burning, killing and attacks upon the workers / leaders of opposition, but police have become silent spectators. The police stations have become stooge in the words of BJP goons”, the letter added.

The PCC leaders demanded immediate arrest of the miscreants who attacked Nitya Gopal Saha and also others against whom FIR is filed in different Police Stations immediately, without any loss of time or else they shall be compelled to hold mass protest for justice.
