Protests held across state for 15 minutes on highway over 6-point charter of demands including rollback of fuel prices, says Oppn leader Manik Sarkar
Agartala: The Left Front led by opposition CPIM on Tuesday held a statewide protest against the decision of the Tripura state government and the Centre.
The demonstration organised in support of the six-point charter of demands jointly by the Left Front, including Communist Party of India (Marxists) CPIM, Communist Party of India (CPI), Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), Forward Block (FB) and Communist Party of India (Marxists-Leninist) (CPIML) who were also invited to participate in the movement.
Speaking with reporters, former chief minister and leader of opposition Manik Sarkar said all the states are protesting separately as per their demands. In Tripura, the protest is being organised on Tuesday across the state.
“The state-wide protest on the highway across the state for 15 minutes was aimed at the six-point charter of demands that include rolling back of fuel price, opposing the decision of handing over 45 coal mining to private firms and 150 routes of Indian Railways. We also demand Rs 7,500 for all non-tax payers for next six months in addition with free rations," Sarkar said.
He also said that the demand for providing free manure and pesticides to the farmers is also added since the farmers had suffered huge loss during this ongoing pandemic.
“The price of fuel has increased by Rs 9 per litre in the last 15 days. This hike on fuel price will also affect the people and price of other essential commodities will also increase. The price of fuel has fallen down across all countries due to the outbreak of coronavirus but in India the price has increased by imposing extra tax on the fuel price," Sarkar added.
He also took on the Centre over the announcement of developing a vaccine for COVID-19 virus within August 15 and said that the international forums have condemned this announcement as they cannot pressure the scientist and researcher to hurry their study and trial before making it public.
