Agartala: In an effort to provide relief to youths of the state, Tripura cabinet on Tuesday gave its approval for a one-year relaxation in upper age limit over the existing upper-age limit, as per respective recruitment rules, said law minister Ratan Lal Nath.

Speaking at a press conference, Nath said that it has come to the notice of the state government that due to the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, the notifications for conducting competitive exams are being delayed.

“The aspiring candidates for the post to be notified by Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC) and other government departments, PSUs, state government organisations may become over-aged as per upper age limit. Considering the fact, the government has felt it is necessary to relax one year of limit for direct recruitment," Nath said.

He also said that one-time relaxation would be given to the existing upper age limit of the posts for all categories, including unreserved and reserved, of candidates and government servants.

“This will remain in force from the date of issue of the notification till December 31. Tripura is the only state to have taken such a decision for the overall welfare of its citizens," Nath added.

Meanwhile, chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb wrote on Twitter, “Happy to share that our Govt has decided to give one-year relaxation in upper age limit for all categories of candidates for direct recruitment of various posts to be advertised by various Depts, TPSC, PSUs & State Govt organizations”.

“The decision has been taken following the COVID19 pandemic. The relaxation will take place as one time measure. A memorandum will soon be issued in this regard," he added.
