On Monday, the price of petrol was raised to Rs 80.41 per litre and diesel to Rs 75.08 per litre
Agartala: Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) on Monday staged a massive protest across the state taking part in the pan-India protest programme against the hike in fuel prices.
Speaking with reporters, TPCC chief Pijush Kanti Biswas said that the Indian economy is in deep crisis and at least 60 % of the people are facing acute shortage of money to buy minimum food for their livelihood.
“The wrong implementation of lockdown by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi resulted in crores of job loss. While, thousands of industries and small scale business establishments were forced to shut down. The employees were forced to return back home and today they are empty handed,” Biswas said.
He also said that in the last 23 days the price of fuel has increased 22 times even though the price in the international market is low. The price in the international market has reduced 248 times lesser than what it was during the UPA government.
“During the Congress-led UPA government, the price of the fuel was always maintained as per the international market rate, but now even though the rate has reduced, the NDA government has been raising the price of petrol and diesel regularly,” Biswas added.
In Tripura, on Monday, the price of petrol increased to Rs 80.41 and diesel ti Rs 75.08 per litre.
He also said that the price of the fuel is being increased intentionally as the government has no money at their hands to run the country.
“When the PM saw the economy was in deep crisis and the government had no money to run the country they increased the price of fuel. Earlier when they faced a similar situation, they introduced the GST with up to 28 per cent. People are being looted at a time when they are already suffering from the pandemic,” Biswas said.
He also said that as per the present international rate the selling price cannot be more than Rs 20 per litre. By increasing 50 paisa, the Centre earns an extra amount of Rs 50,000 crore every day.
The Congress leader also said that the PCC and all other district presidents will send representations to the President of India to reduce the price of crude oil immediately.
