Agartala: In an effort to conduct 100 percent tests of all the incoming passengers, the Tripura government will add another machine in the virology laboratory, said chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb.

Speaking with reporters, Deb said that Tripura has currently two machines, while approval for one more machine was received on Monday. “With the new machine to be added in the laboratory, the number of tests would further increase. We have plans to test all the incoming people to ensure no community transmission takes place," Deb said.

At present, Tripura is conducting around 800-1,150 samples on a daily basis in the state's lone virology lab at Gobind Ballabh Pant Hospital in Agartala.

He also said that so far 20% samples of the total 15,000 people who have returned to the state were tested. “The number of people returning is increasing and the ratio of samples testing is 5:1 at present. Once the capacity of the number of tests increases, all the incoming passengers would be tested," Deb added.

Speaking further, he said that the MHA has allowed inter-state bus services; however Tripura will keep that suspended for the time being.
