Agartala: In a major development after reporting 148 COVID-19 positive cases in the last nine days, Tripura on Monday reported only two positive cases from the BSF battalions in Ambassa under North Tripura district.

With this, the total number of COVID-19 cases registered in Tripura now stands at 154, including the two recovered patients and two transferred.

Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb said that in a massive sample test of 750 civilians and BSF jawans and their families from Dhalai district on Monday, only two BSF officials were found COVID-19 positive.

Taking to Twitter, Deb announced this development: “In a massive #COVID19 test among 750 civilian and BSF in Dhalai Dist today, 2 BSF officials were found COVID-19 POSITIVE.

All patients are responding well to the treatment.

With the blessings of Mata Tripurasundari soon our State will be Corona free.

The state’s first positive case was reported on April 6 after a 45-year-old woman from Gomati district tested positive with travel history to Assam’s Guwahati. Meanwhile, the second case was reported on April 10, after a Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan tested positive for the deadly coronavirus. Both the positive patients have travel history by the same train on April 19.

Earlier on Monday evening, speaking at a press conference, law minister Ratan Lal Nath said that on Monday more than 500 samples including 250 from Dhalai district are being tested in the laboratory, of which around 300 samples have tested negative till 7 pm on Monday.

“So far all positive cases have come from 138th, 86th and 3rd battalion of Border Security Force (BSF). The two and a half year old kid who was found COVID-19 positive, his viral load has decreased. However, his parents have tested negative once again,” Nath said.

He also said that at present the Indian average number of tests per million population stand at 1,280, while Tripura is doing 2,400 tests, which is highest in the Northeast region and fifth highest in the country.

“Delhi is doing the highest number of tests followed by Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Goa. We do not want to hide anything from the people of the state and therefore we are doing as many,” Nath added.

Speaking about the number of tests conducted by the Northeastern states, Nath said that Sikkim has done 216 tests, Nagaland 718, Meghalaya 2,014, Mizoram 199, Manipur 1,436 and Arunachal Pradesh 1,144. Assam has done 14,383 but the average is below Tripura when compared according to the population.

At present, among the 148 active patients, a total of 60 patients are in Shaheed Bhagat Singh COVID-19 care centre, 87 in GB Pant COVID-19 hospital and one in Salbagan BSF headquarters COVID hospital. “We have identified COVID care centres in five districts on Monday which includes Gomati with 10 beds, South district 10, Dhalai 50, Khowai 10 North 10 and the two other districts will notify by Tuesday”, Nath said.

Meanwhile, so far 14,037 persons have been placed under surveillance, out of which 11,675 persons have been released after completion the 14 days observational time period. At present 233 persons are in facility quarantine while 2,129 persons in home quarantine.

A total of 10,344 samples have been collected out of which 9,594 have been tested of which 152 tested positive. However, two persons have been discharged and two were transferred to Assam and West Bengal.

Meanwhile, till Monday, 37, 721 stranded persons from Tripura have registered their names with the web portal launched by government of Tripura. These include 12,782 persons in Karnataka, 8,129 in Tamil Nadu, 6,174 in West Bengal, 1,470 in Assam and 1,382 Telangana.
