Agartala: 12 more BSF jawans tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, they are from the same unit where two jawans tested positive on Saturday.
Taking to twitter Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb confirmed the development, “Alert! 12 persons from 138th #BSF unit Ambassa found #COVID19 positive.
Total #COVID19 positive cases in Tripura stands at 16 (2 already discharged, so active cases: 14) Don't panic, follow the Gov't guidelines. We are working vigilantly for your safety.”
“We collected their samples on Saturday in the evening and on Sunday the test results came positive. We have kept them inside the camp in a separate area quarantined. A portion of the BSF camp will now be marked as a quarantine area. The process is going on,” says a government nodal officer supervising the operation.
According to reports the health department has put over 527 people in different quarantine centres. A total of 4955 samples have been tested.
With this, the total number of positive cases has gone up to 16, of which 2 have been discharged after they recovered. Now, 14 active cases remain in hospitals.
The samples of the BSF jawans was collected and the reports came positive today, said Nodal officer Dr Deep Kumar Debbarma.
The state’s first positive case was reported on April 6 after a 45-year-old woman from Gomati district tested positive with travel history to Assam’s Guwahati. Meanwhile, the second case was reported on April 10, after a Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan tested positive for the deadly coronavirus. Both the positive patients have travel history by the same train on April 19.
Earlier, on April 23, chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb announced Tripura a coronavirus-free state shortly after the two patients tested negative and were discharged.
