Tripura’s second and last COVID-19 patient released from hospital

Health staff including senior officials give a round of applause as ambulance carrying Tripura’s 2nd and last COVID-19 patient leaves hospital for facility quarantine

Agartala: Two days after the second COVID-19 positive patient -- a Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan -- tested negative for two consecutive times, the health department on Saturday released him and sent him into 14-day facility quarantine.

Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb took to his Twitter account and announced, “Happy Moments. The 2nd and last COVID19 patient of Tripura got released from Hospital, where all the Healthcare staff gave him a round of applause while he was leaving. He shared his satisfaction for the treatment received here and thanked the Doctors and Medical staffs.”

“I thank all the frontline Warriors for making our State Corona free. The fight is not over yet. I urge everyone to follow the Government guidelines. Stay Home Stay Safe,” he wrote.

Speaking with reporters, a senior government official said that the second patient-- TSR jawan from the 13th battalion was released from hospital after he tested negative for two consecutive tests.

“He will be kept in facility quarantine for the next 14 days under the observation of the health workers,” he said.

On being released from the hospital, the TSR jawan expressed his satisfaction over the kind of treatment he received. “The health staff has been very kind and careful while I was undergoing treatment in the hospital. I never felt like I was away from my family. People should stay home and help those who are fighting this disease risking their lives,” the patient said.

The state’s first positive case was reported on April 6 after a 45-year-old woman from Gomati district tested positive with travel history to Assam’s Guwahati. Meanwhile, the second case was reported on April 10, after a Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan tested positive for the deadly coronavirus. Both the positive patients have travel history by the same train on April 19.

Earlier, the chief minister had announced that the sample of Tripura’s second COVID-19 positive patient tested negative for the second time on Thursday.
