Migrant couple decided to name their newborn Lockdown to remind them of the tough days they faced because of COVID-19 pandemic
Agartala: Sanjay and Puja Bauri were blessed with a baby boy in Agartala the capital of Tripura far away from their home in Dausa, Rajasthan. A joyous new beginning for the couple in challenging times. The new father inspired by COVID-19 baby names has named his son ‘Lockdown’.
Speaking to EastMojo.com Sanjay says, “We decided to call him Lockdown, to remind us in future of the crisis we as a family faced. His birth was not easy as we have been stranded here following the national lockdown.”
Sanjay, a street vendor, from Dausa district in Rajasthan had come to Agartala to earn a living. They arrived in January this year and had planned to return but could not risk train or road travel as his wife was due to give birth any day.
They are staying at the shelter set up by Government Railway Police (GRP) at the Badharghat Higher Secondary School. The GRP personnel drove the couple to the hospital when Puja started getting labor pains. They also provided medicines and all essential items for them at the relief camp.
Puja is anxious and wants to return home to Dausa soon, “
“We are grateful to the officers who came forward to help us at this situation by providing us with food, shelter and medical treatment. We are waiting to return back to our village soon as the lockdown is lifted.” She is also excited to introduce ‘Lockdown’ to his cousins and family back home.
GRP Superintendent, Pinaki Samanta is a busy man taking care of 63 migrant vendors and labours who were found stranded in Agartala Railway station. He and his men were instrumental in helping Sanjay and his wife Puja at their time of need.
“We provided them with food, shelter and other essential commodities. The pregnant lady was shifted to IGM hospital a few days back where she gave birth to a healthy baby boy. We are providing nutritional supplements, medicines and other necessities of the family here”, Samanta said.
The arrival of ‘Lockdown’(the Child) was celebrated by all at the relief camp. The GRP personnel distributed sweets to everyone. Having welcomed Lockdown they now await the end of the lockdown to celebrate again and travel back home.
One day Lockdown might meet others who were born during the COVID-19 lockdown. He may befriend Sanitizer, COVID, Corona Virus etc as he travels around the country.
