Agartala: A month after recovering the body of a 22-year-old woman in a half-burnt condition from Rangacherra area under Sidhai police station, Tripura police recovered the body of a 13-year-old girl in a similar position from Durgabari area of West Tripura district on Friday.

Speaking with reporters, New Capital Complex (NCC) sub-divisional police officer Priya Madhuri Majumder said that the charred body of the minor was recovered from Durgabari tea estate area adjoining Green Touch Resort on Friday morning just about 100 to 150 metres from her residence.

“The deceased had burn injuries on her body. She went out of her house in the morning at about 6:30 to the washroom. When she did not return, her parents started looking for. Later, they found her body near their residence,” Majumder said.

She also said that the father of the deceased runs a fast food shop from within their residence.

“As per the preliminary investigation, it seems to be a death due to burn injuries. However, the body was recovered and sent for post-mortem for medical evidence. The family members are not sure why she would have committed suicide,” Majumder added.

Earlier, the body of 22-year-old woman was recovered from Rangacherra area under Sidhai police station on March 14, around 21 km from Agartala.

Prima facie, it was believed that the cause of death was due to love affair leading to suicide. The police had detained one person, identified as Saurab Paul, a local auto driver, in this connection.

A similar death within a month in the same district had left the people shocked and angry over the police administration at a time when huge deployment of security forces has been made across the state amid the COVID-19 lockdown.
