Gomati district administration seals ‘core area’ of 1-km radius around Tripura’s 1st COVID-19 patient’s house in Gokulpur village; several people put under isolation
Agartala: Close on the heels of Tripura reporting its first COVID-19 positive case on Monday evening, the Gomati district administration on Tuesday sealed an area of 1-km radius around the patient’s residence in Gokulpur village, said district magistrate Tarun Kanti Debnath.
Speaking at a press conference, Debnath said that besides sealing 1-km radius around the patient’s house as core area, the district administration sealed another 1-km area on either side as per protocol.
“Nobody can step out of his or her house until and unless there is a medical emergency. Several people have been placed under isolation, including the three family members and the auto driver who dropped them to GB Pant hospital,” Gomati SP Lucky Chauhan said.
The SP also said that the husband of the infected woman is a tailor by profession and he runs shops in Udaipur city. Whoever visited his shop or anybody residing in the area having symptoms of cold, cough and fever should immediately report to the health staff or the police administration, she added.
“The woman left for Assam on March 15 and after boarding an Agartala-bound train on March 18, she reached here on March 19. The family members had reserved seats on the S4 and S5 coaches of Tripurasundari Express,” Chauhan added.
She also informed that they took a local train from Agartala to Udaipur and later hired an auto rickshaw that dropped them in Gokulpur.
Meanwhile, the district magistrate said that all those who had a travel history to foreign countries or other states via flights were placed in house quarantine but since the woman traveled by train, the authorities did not have any data.
“The son-in-law of the infected woman who serves in the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) was also placed under quarantine, since he had direct contact with them, to avert the possibility of any further spread,” Debnath said.
Meanwhile, he also said that the district hospital has two ventilators to deal with any positive cases, if reported in the district. However, the test can be performed only at AGMC Hospital in state capital Agartala.
The administration will now start spraying hydrochloride solution to disinfect the entire 3-km area. In the core area of 1 km, spraying would be done in all private and commercial establishments including roads, whereas in the 3-km radius, only houses will be covered.
Meanwhile, the health department has also put 36 medical staff, including doctors and 13 family members of the infected woman, in quarantine after the patient tested positive.
Before being tested positive, the woman was taken to two different hospitals -- Gomati district hospital in Udaipur and ILS Hospital in Agartala, from where she was referred to AGMC on Monday after the doctors noticed symptoms of COVID-19.
Earlier, taking to Twitter, CM Biplab Kumar Deb announced the development at 8 pm on Monday (April 6, 2020). "Alert! First #COVID19 positive case detected at Tripura. The patient is from Udaipur. Don't Panic, we are taking proper care of the patient. Stay Home Stay Safe. Update at: 8PM / April 6," he tweeted.
Meanwhile, a total of eight persons from Tripura, who attended Delhi’s Nizamuddin Markaz, have tested COVID-19 positive. However, they are still outside the state, said nodal officer for COVID-19, Dr Deep Kumar Debbarma.
Debbarma said that eight persons from Tripura have tested COVID-19 positive in different states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
