Daughter of a daily-wage labourer was brutally murdered in Tripura due to alleged negligence of state police, blames CPI-M state general secretary Goutam Das
Agartala: Demanding a judicial inquiry over the mysterious death of 22-year-old Manti Deb in Rangacherra village under Sidhai police station, the Opposition CPI-M on Monday alleged that efforts to hide the crime and criminals by the BJP government is being made.
Speaking in a press conference, CPI-M state secretary Goutam Das said that the law and order in the last 24 months have collapsed and incidents that we never encountered in the past is happening in the state.
“The daughter of daily wage labourer, who was contributing to the family, was brutally murdered due to the negligence of the police. The family of the deceased had approached the police but they did not react instantly to save the girl,” Das said.
He also alleged that that the police without completing the investigation has started confirming that the cause of the death was due to love affair and suicide.
“The chief minister is silent and has not spoken a single word over the incident. The minister concerned, in whose assembly constituency the incident has taken place, is also maintaining surprising silence. The careless comments of the minister have given fuel to the supporters,” Das alleged.
A delegation of the CPI-M will also visit the house of Manti Deb and meet the family members of the deceased.
The body of the 22-year-old woman was recovered in half-burn condition from a paddy field in Rangacherra area under Sidhai police station on Friday last around 21 km from here.
Speaking with EastMojo, assistant inspector general law and order, Subrata Chakraborty, said that the body of 22-year-old, Manti Deb, was recovered and the investigation is going. As per prima facie, it is believed that the causes of death was due to love affairs leading to suicide.
The police had detained one person, identified as Saurab Paul, a local auto driver, in this connection. The local court on Sunday sent him on 7 days police remand and he is being interrogated by the police.
Speaking further Das said that the death of three people from the same family including two children was due to the scarcity of food and cash.
“The people have suffered in the last 24 months of the BJP-IPFT government. Even in the West district’s Mohanpur at least 4 people committed suicide. The Andolan Debbarma who is a rubber tapper is being accused”, Das said.
He also demanded 100 days of MGNREGA works, free ration in the areas where employment opportunity is less.
“The people are being forced to lend the ration cards for food and the government is silent. The authorities must take immediate action,” Das added.
He also said that the government prior to the elections had made a promise to make the jobs of 10,323 ad-hoc teachers of state as permanent, but now they have denied accepting the truth.
“The BJP had promised to provide 50 thousand jobs in the first year of the government, Rs 340 of minimum wages and make post of 10,323 ad-hoc teachers as permanent. They must take back the promises which they failed to fulfill,” Das demanded.
