Coronavirus: Tripura to decide on educational institutions soon

Decision on postponing the upcoming budget session of the state assembly is also likely to be taken by the BAC as a precautionary measure following other states

Agartala: With concern over the rising cases of coronavirus in the country and to prevent it from spreading in state, a high-level meeting of the state government has been called on Tuesday to take the decision on shutting down the educational institutions.

Following the footsteps of the other states like including, Assam, Manipur, West Bengal and Meghalaya which have already announced to shutdown the educational institutes, the Tripura government will also take the decision after conducting a meeting on Tuesday, sources from the civil secretariat informed.

It is also learnt that the upcoming budget session of the state assembly will also be postponed as a precautionary measure that most of the states have followed.

A meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) is also likely to take place on Tuesday in connection with the budget session and it is expected that the decision to postpone the budget session will be taken on Tuesday.

The vote on account will be done once the BAC decides the cabinet will give approval for the session.

Meanwhile, keeping in view the ongoing board examination of the state board the education department has issued a memorandum directing all the school headmasters to arrange hand wash/soap or hand sanitizers in front of the exam halls.

“In view of the COVID- 19 (Corona Virus) outbreak and detection of a few cases in our country, health advisories have been issued by the authorities concerned. In our state of Tripura, currently, board examinations, as well as school annual examinations are going on. As a preventive measure for the safety of students and teachers, all the headmasters are requested to either arrange an alcohol-based hand sanitizer or soap/hand-wash with sufficient water. Every student and teacher must be asked to wash their hand properly with soap and water or and use hand sanitizers before entering the examination hall,” memorandum undersigned by director UK Chakma informed.

It also informed that the NISHTHA training programme scheduled to be started from March 16 has also been postponed.
