Agartala: In a horrific incident, body of one 22-year-old woman was recovered in half-burn condition from Rangacherra area under Sidhai police station on Friday morning around 21 km from here.

Speaking with EastMojo, assistant inspector general law and order, Subrata Chakraborty, said that the body of 22-year-old, Monti Deb, was recovered and investigation is going. As per prima facie, it is believed that the causes of death was due to love affairs leading to suicide.

However, police have detained one person, identified as Saurab Paul, a local auto driver, in this connection. He is being interrogated by the police.

The girl was missing since last evening and the family of the deceased had filed a complaint with the police.

The locals on Friday morning saw the half-burnt body and informed the police. The body was recovered and sent for postmortem by the police.

Meanwhile, the mother of the deceased said that her daughter had left home on Thursday around 4 pm and never returned home.

“She called me in the evening for purchasing some clothes and later in the night hours when she did not return home I called and somebody named Ripan Deb picked the call,” Sima Deb said.

The Opposition CPI-M held a protest rally in Agartala condemned the incident that took place in West district of Tripura demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.

Speaking with reporters, state DYFI secretary, Nabarun Deb, said that such incident has never taken place in state. We condemn such an incident. The law and order of the state have totally collapsed.

“The hooligans under the BJP government are roaming fearlessly. We feel ashamed that the Tripura Commission for Women claimed that not a single crime against women has been reported in the state,” Deb said, adding: Such careless comments of the state are encouraging the criminals.

“We demand the chief minister to bring back the law and order situation in control. The culprits must be arrested at the earliest or else movement will be held across the state,” Deb added.
