Agartala: Bowing down to log-pending demands from parents, students and teachers, the state government has finally decided to start summer vacation in schools from the month of May, instead of April.

In another significant development, the state government has also decided to declare results of Class XII board exams in the last week of May and Class X board exams within the first three days of June. Tripura Class XII Board exams were declared on June 6 last year.

Now, according to the state education minister, Ratan Lal Nath, from this academic year onwards, the summer vacation in Tripura schools will start from May 17 to June 7.

Addressing media persons, Nath also said that the department has decided to appoint nearly 4,000 teachers for checking high school and higher secondary examination answer sheet from April 16 to 22.

“Apart from Agartala, the state government has also decided to set up two new centers at Udaipur in Gomati district and Kumarghat in Dhalai district to check the high school-level answer scripts. However, the higher secondary copies will be checked only at Agartala centre,” Nath said, adding: “Earlier, teachers used to receive Rs 6 as an honorarium for each copy. Now, the education department has requested the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) to increase the amount to Rs 10 per copy.”
