Agartala: As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) celebrates two years of the historic mandate against the 25 years of Left Front government in state, Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb said that the people have rescued themselves from the Communist ideology by voting the BJP-led government to power in the 2018 assembly elections.

Speaking with reporters after visiting the Tripura Sundari temple on Tuesday, Deb said every household will get employment opportunities as the government is working in that direction.

“The present government is working hard to achieve new heights following the footsteps of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Every household will soon have employment and we are sure that Tripura will become the best state with blessings of goddess Tripura Sundari and the guidance of PM Modi,” Deb said.

Meanwhile, the BJP is celebrating the day as ‘Mukti Diwas’ (day of freedom) across the state. The day is important for all the BJP supporters since on this very day, two years ago, the BJP received a historic mandate and defeated the CPIM rule in the state, BJP leader Santosh Saha said.

However, the opposition CPIM and Congress have castigated the BJP government for making promises like providing 50,000 jobs in the posts which were lying vacant as per BJP’s poll campaign, raise in wages of MGNREGA, increase in social pension, solution of 10,323 teachers’ problems, among others.

The CPIM state secretary Goutam Das lashed at the BJP party and claimed March 03 as “black day’ for the people, as the BJP party has failing to keep their pre-poll promises after coming into power in 2018 last.

“The BJP-RSS had exerted all their power to take control of all the small northeast states. All the cabinet minister and senior BJP leaders had landed in Tripura to fight against the Left Front government in 2018. They (BJP) even used muscle, money and media power with fake promises like increase in wages and 7th Pay Commission for the government employees,” Das said.

Speaking further, he said that in the last two years, at least 13 CPIM party workers were killed but no actions were initiated by the BJP-IPFT government.

“Due to the immense pressure created by the supporters of BJP, 15 CPIM party workers died suffering heart attacks. Over 2,170 people were manhandled including 203 women. Up to 341 shops were looted, 1,002 houses ransacked, vandalised or looted,” Das added.

In the 2018 assembly elections, the BJP secured a historic win against the 25 years of CPIM-led Left Front government by winning 36 out of 60 assembly seats. Their alliance partner IPFT won eight seats, ending the Left Front regime in state. The CPIM was reduced to 16 seats from the previous 51 in the state assembly.
