Agartala: The special judge of West Tripura district and session court has sent the former chief secretary Yash Pal Singh on 4-day police custody after hearing the case of multi-crore PWD scam.

Speaking with EastMojo, senior advocate Pijush Kanti Biswas, counsel of YP Singh, said that the court after hearing both the sides sent Singh to police remand.

“The special judge Sabyasachi Datta Purkayastha has sent former chief secretary to police remand and he will be produced on February 22,” Biswas said.

He also said that argument was made in the court and he has produced all the papers of the cabinet decision and no criminal case is registered against him.

However, the public prosecutor Ratan Datta argued in the court that all three accused persons in the PWD scam must be interrogated together, but the court did not allow for that on Wednesday.

The Tripura police had sought 10 days’ police custody of Singh for further investigation in the case, but the court granted only three days.

The former chief secretary was brought back to the state by the crime branch by a morning flight from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh after the court allowed the transit remand of Singh. The family members of Singh, including his wife and daughter, are also in Agartala.

The Tripura police had also deployed a number of TSR, CRPF jawans in the vicinity of the court taking no risk in the high profile multi-crore scam of PWD.

“Singh was detained from IRS Apartments in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad on Monday and brought to Indirapuram police station for verification. After doing all the formalities, he was arrested and kept in Kavi Nagar police station,” a police source said.

A team of Tripura Police, led by Ajay Kumar Das, deputy superintendent, crime branch, arrested the former chief secretary ,128 days after being booked in the multi-crore PWD scam on Monday.

Singh had been absconding since October 13 after being booked by the West Agartala police station.

He served as the chief secretary in Tripura during the previous Left Front government and was booked along with former PWD minister Badal Choudhury and former chief engineer Sunil Bhowmik by the crime branch.

Both the former minister and former chief engineer were arrested but are currently on bail after remaining in judicial custody for more than 87 days.

Tripura police could not arrest Singh even after making several attempts and tried to search his Delhi house on several occasions.
