Agartala: Close to a week after a businessman, who had gone missing on his way home at North Dhanicherra in Pecharthal in North Tripura district, the police have recovered his body from a canal upon interrogating two suspects.
Speaking with EastMojo, North Tripura SP Bhanupada Chakraborty said that the deceased had gone missing on February 6 and a missing case was also registered by the family of the deceased.
“The deceased, Dhan Gopal Saha (60), was missing and upon investigation, four persons were detained. After interrogating the suspects, three more names came up. Two persons were arrested and after interrogating them, they confessed to the crime,” Chakraborty said.
He also said that the arrested duo were also neighbours of the deceased and identified as Sajit Majumder (35) and Akash Sarkar (28).
“The body of the deceased was recovered from a canal within his village area after the suspects accepted to have killed him. The reason for the murder is yet to be ascertained as the investigation is yet to be completed,” the SP said.
The third suspect Manojit Majumder (30) is yet to be arrested as he is on the run, Chakraborty said.
“The deceased was a businessman and had good financial stability. He was killed by his neighbours and their relatives. There was a dispute between the two families on various issues,” Chakraborty added.
Meanwhile, the body of a college student was recovered from the hostel of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar College in Belonia subdivision under South Tripura district.
The deceased, Narayan Tripura (22), was a resident of Kolacherra in Sabroom sub-division and was a BCom final year student.
“The room of Tripura was locked till late evening and after his classmates informed the authorities the police rushed to the spot and the body was found lying on the bed. A case was registered by the police and the body was sent for postmortem,” an on-duty policeman said.
