Needs of people yet to be fulfilled: Tripura CM on Statehood Day

On January 21 every year, Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura celebrate their Statehood Day with a variety of cultural and social events across the state

Agartala: On Tripura’s 48th Statehood Day, chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb said that although Tripura became a full-fledged state on January 21, 1972, the needs of the common man are yet to be fulfilled. The state government is now working for what could not be accomplished in the last many years, he said.

On January 21 every year, Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura celebrate their Statehood Day with a number of cultural and social events across the states.

CM Deb said that now the state is going ahead and development has started. “Our dream is to make Tripura a model state among all in terms of development,” he added.

He also said that in the last 23 months, the present government has achieved many heights including growth in the revenue collection from 8.9% to 26% in the year 2017-18. The state has also achieved 100% success in Public Distribution System (PDS), electrification and in eradicating malaria like disease in the state.

“With the proper implementation of Ujjwala Yojana, gas cylinders could be distributed to 91% households and e-tendering system has been introduced in the state as [a] mark of transparency. These all are small examples of the state government in which we have secured 100% and our government is trying to be an economically self-reliant state,” Deb added.

The governor of Tripura Ramesh Bais said that the government is trying to make Tripura developed and well connected to the rest part of India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated the people of Tripura on its Statehood Day.

Modi wrote: “Statehood Day greetings to my sisters and brothers of Tripura. We are proud of Tripura’s exemplary traditions and contribution to national development. It’s people are known for their industrious nature. I pray for the continued prosperity and well-being of Tripura’s citizens.”

The President of India in his tweet congratulated the people of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura as he wrote, “Greetings to the people of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura on Statehood Day. My best wishes to all the residents of these beautiful states for a bright and prosperous future.”
