‘Tourist circuit’ being built to boost tourism in Northeast region, includes spiritual tourism, health tourism, film tourism and tea tourism, among others
Agartala: In a bid to woo more tourists, the Tripura tourism department has initiated to adopt a 'tourism policy' to generate employment for youths and help entrepreneurs grow in the state.
Speaking with reporters, state tourism minister Pranajit Singha Roy said that the policy is aimed at promoting and attracting people in the state.
“The state government is going to adopt a tourism policy within this month covering all aspects of tourism in Tripura. The draft proposal for the policy had been prepared for 2019 to 2024 and would be placed before the council of ministers for approval in the ensuing cabinet meeting,” Roy said.
A ‘tourist circuit’ is being built to boost tourism in the Northeastern region and it includes spiritual tourism, health tourism, film tourism, tea tourism, etc.
“The government has also extended financial support of Rs 10 lakh for purchase of vehicles for CAB services in various tourist destinations where youths willing to work as drivers and guides would also be trained under the skill development programme in the policy. Yearly awards would also be given a number of youths, self-help groups for their performances,” Singha Roy said.
The policy includes infrastructure development, setting up of helipad at Dumboor, Log Huts in various tourist spots, cafeterias to be run by local SHGs, construction of 5 star-hotels in PPP-mode, ropeways, gold courts, Panchakarma, amusement parks, etc.
Currently, there are three Log Huts at Baramura and Tepania eco-parks and five Log Huts in Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary. Tourists can avail this opportunity of staying there as the tourism department and forest department had signed an agreement recently, he added.
There would be package tours including. Railway package tours are in process, security arrangements, different fairs and festivals. The cultural evening programme have already started at Neer Mahal and is being shown on every Saturdays and Sundays.
The government has also introduced ‘Prayatan Shohayak Prakalpo’ scheme providing Rs 5 Lakh as loan with minimum interest for new entrepreneurs willing to set up a business.
