Agartala: As part of ongoing nationwide protest starting from November 5, the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) on Thursday held a demonstration in front of the Reserve Bank of India's Agartala branch.

The demonstration was organised over the alleged failure of the BJP-led government in the state on various fronts, especially on issues like combating financial crunch, generation of employment and food security, among others.

Speaking with reporters, All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary and Tripura in-charge Bhupen Borah said that the entire economy of the country has collapsed and it is in a coma now. The BJP government can relax the taxes of ‘crorepati’ (corporate) but they cannot waive the loan and taxes of the farmers.

“The country is witnessing low economic growth and employment rate has dipped to an all-time low. Modi government has made a lot of promises to the farmers and for the youths of the country, but so far none of their promises have been fulfilled,” he said.

Lashing out at the NDA government, the AICC secretary alleged that BJP has paralyzed the GDP growth in the country which has never happened before.

“After the BJP government formed in the centre earlier in 2014 they have promised that they will generate 2 crores jobs, but instead of providing jobs more than 90 lakhs youths have lost their jobs. Today a similar condition is being witnessed in Tripura. The BJP before coming into power in the year 2018 had promised that they will provide one job in every house but they have not done anything so far,” Borah added.

Movement in all the district and block levels was organised till November 13, while the central mass gathering and movement were held in Agartala here on Thursday.

A rally, consisting over 500 Congress leaders, supporters and workers, was taken out from Tripura Pradesh Congress Bhawan in Agartala at 12 pm and after marching across the state capital they gheraoed the Reserve Bank of India branch and registered their protest by shouting slogans criticising the Central government.

Former chief minister Samir Ranjan Barman, former PCC president Gopal Chandra Roy, vice-president Pijush Kanti Biswas, among others, were also present in the protest rally.
