Court gives permission to IO to keep former PWD minister Badal Choudhury at New Capital Complex police station, a day after it sent him to 4 days of police custody
Agartala: A day after the special judge of the West Tripura district and sessions court in Agartala sent Badal Choudhury, the former Tripura minister and one of the main accused in the Rs 600 crore PWD scam, to four days of police custody, the investigating officer has been given permission to keep Choudhury in the New capital complex (NCC) police station for further interrogation.
Speaking with EastMojo, Arindam Bhattacharjee, counsel of Choudhury, said that the investigating officer had placed an application in the court on Wednesday after making all arrangements for the former minister to keep him in the NCC police station for interrogation.
“The investigating officer (IO) after making all arrangements for the former minister as per the directions of the court today sought permission to interrogate him in NCC police station. He will be here for the next four days for interrogation,” Bhattacharjee said.
Earlier on Monday, the court ordered that Choudhury should not be kept inside police lockup during the police remand and interrogation considering his health. He should be kept in a separate room having air, light availability, one bed for sleeping, with the provision of drinking water and proper diet with attached toilet. Medical treatment once a day should be provided with full health and security protection during the remand period, the court had said.
Speaking with reporters, counsel Raghunath Mukherjee said the former minister will be interrogated for the next four days. “We have asked Choudhury to cooperate with the police. We shall again visit him in the morning. The court has also directed the the police to allow the counsels and the family members to meet with him anytime as per the Supreme Court order in DK Basu case,” Mukherjee said.
“The arrangements are well and good, except for the bed, which is not suitable since he is a patient of spondylitis. The IO has assured to replace the bed with a wooden bed,” Mukherjee added.
