A 35-year-old woman was allegedly abducted and gang-raped by miscreants in West Tripura district on Sept 24; total number of those arrested goes up to 9 so far
Agartala: Tripura Police apprehended another accused in connection with the Narsingarh rape case, taking the total number of arrested people to nine. All the accused went through the test identification parade (TIP) on Monday afternoon.
Speaking with EastMojo, West Tripura SP Ajit Pratap Singh said that the accused persons have gone through the TIP and they will be produced in the court on Tuesday. “All nine accused persons will be produced in the court seeking for their police remand to investigate the case further,” Singh added.
A 35-year-old woman was allegedly abducted and gang-raped by a group of miscreants in Narsingarh area of Tripura’s West Tripura district on September 24.
Meanwhile, three more rape cases were reported in three districts of the state on Tuesday. The body of a 38-year-old woman was recovered from Khilpara in Gomati district on Sunday evening after her husband found her naked body lying in an empty room.
The lady had reportedly gone to attend a Kali Puja ceremony in her locality and the incident might have happened when she was returning home, locals said.
The SDPO and police team rushed to the spot and the body was sent for post-mortem on Monday. The police have questioned four youths in connection with the cases on the basis of suspicion but are yet to find out the culprits.
Meanwhile, in Unakoti district, Muhhamad Mujif Ali (23) was arrested by the police for the alleged rape of a 17-year-old girl on Saturday.
SP Lucky Chouhan said: "We have arrested the accused and he was produced in the court. He has been sent to judicial custody by the court.”
In another case, a 52-year-old was allegedly raped by two persons and both of them were arrested on Monday. The accused were identified as Saurajit Debbarma (23) and Arvind Debbarma (22). They were produced in the court which sent them to judicial custody.
