Incident took place when a bus, after attending a rally in Agartala and heading towards Udaipur, collided head-on with an SUV coming from opposite direction
Agartala: Six passengers, including three school teachers, lost their lives, while two sustained critical injuries, when an SUV collided head-on with a bus at Charilam area of Tripura’s Sepahijala district on Thursday evening.
Speaking with EastMojo, deputy inspector general (DIG) Arindam Nath said: “The bus (bearing registration number TR03-1286) was heading towards Udaipur carrying people after attending a political rally in Agartala and the Jeep (bearing registration number TR01-C-4392) was coming from the opposite direction.”
Five of the six people who died on the spot have been identified as Sital Malakar, driver of the jeep, Swapan Banerjee, Laxmi Rani Paul, Kanika Debnath and Alak Chakraborty. One person is yet to be identified. The injured persons were later referred to GB Pant Hospital in Agartala.
Later in the day, chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb expressed his discontent over this accident and he wrote on his Facebook page, “The loss of lives due to road accident in Bishramganj is very unfortunate. I am deeply pained. My thoughts are with the families of those who have lost their loved ones. May God give the bereaved families strength to withstand this tragic loss.”
