Agartala: Tripura Police on Friday arrested a 56-year-old man from Mekhlipara tea estate in the West Tripura district of Tripura for a crime that he committed 41 years ago.
Speaking with EastMojo, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Budhjung Nagar police station said that Bachu Kaul (56) was arrested for his involvement in a case of theft dating back to 1978.
Kaul was just 15 years old when he allegedly stole the goat along with his father, Mohan Kaul, from Nandan Nagar area in 1978, following which a case was registered against them in the East Agartala police station.
“Recently, the high court here ordered us to submit the case diaries. Initially, the case was registered at East Agartala police station, but, later, it was transferred to Budhjung Nagar police station. We arrested him after receiving an arrest warrant. He was later produced in court seeking seven days’ judicial remand. But the court put him under trial,” the OC said.
The father-son duo were declared absconding ever since they committed the crime. Kaul’s father, who was also involved in the crime, died 18 years ago. The price of the goat was Rs 45 in 1978, which is estimated to be around Rs 3,000 under current market rates, the OC added.
