Agartala: Contraband items worth Rs 1.15 crore were seized by the police and Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in separate operations across Tripura on Monday.

A press release issued the BSF on Monday evening said that in a continued effort towards maintaining peace and tranquility along the international boundary and curbing the menace of narcotic drugs, security personnel succeeded in seizing 3,310 Yaba tablets having a market value of Rs 15 lakh.

“Acting on specific intelligence inputs, troops of the border out post at Dimatoli while performing duties in bordering area, observed the suspicious movement of some miscreants, approaching near the border fence. Sensing graveness of the situation, the troops challenged the miscreants due to which they fled from the spot towards India side. BSF jawans seized 3,310 Yaba tablets having market value of Rs 15 lakh,” the press release said.

In another operation, the BSF troops seized 206 bottles of Phensedyl, 12 cattle, 24 bottles of foreign liquor and other items having a combined market value of Rs 1.54 lakh.

Meanwhile, the anti-narcotics team of West Tripura district in a separate operation seized 40,560 bottles of Phensedyl from a godown in Badharghat.

“After receiving a tip-off, we seized a good amount of Phensedyl from a godown and we have arrested two persons -- Pritesh Deb and the manager Sanjib Bhowmik -- in connection with the case. The price of the contraband items is Rs 25 lakh but in the black market it will be around Rs 1 crore,” said a police official, adding that further investigation is going on.
