How Agartala railway station is getting a world-class makeover

Waiting rooms for first-class, second-class passengers, VIP lounges being upgraded and redesigned with modern facilities; tradition & culture of Tripura in full display

Agartala: In order to give an overall makeover to the Agartala railway station in Tripura, the Indian Railways has sanctioned Rs 1 crore for redesigning and renovating the station with modern amenities.

Speaking with EastMojo, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) chief public relations officer (CPRO) Subhanan Chanda said that the Agartala railway station is being renovated under a project sanctioned by Indian Railways.

In the proposed work, the first-class and second-class waiting rooms and the VIP lounge are being upgraded and redesigned with modern facilities and amenities for the passengers.

To develop the waiting rooms, Rs 45 lakh each would be spent for the first-class and second class rooms and Rs 15 lakh for the VIP lounge.

Gayanujoy Chakma, a resident of Chawmanu in Dhalai district, was all praises for the new look of the station.

The tradition and culture of the state have been shown through the work of art at the station. Facilities provided for the passengers have been improved but more efforts are required from the governments end to improve the railway station.

The entrance of the railway station has also been given a new look by adding truss with tensile sheets each side of the building for which around Rs 20 lakh was spent.

While, the waiting rooms have been provided with accessories like false ceiling, western and Indian lavatories, decorative wall paneling in all walls, powder-coated aluminum door and windows, 3D wall paper, Zebra roller blind curtain bin windows, HPL cubical toilets and breastfeeding room.

The space of the second-class waiting room has also been increased from 100.80 sq m to 151.87 sq m and the first-class waiting room area has been increased from 55.40 sq m to 87.78 sq m.

Work on other stations of the Northeast, apart from Agartala railway station, for the re-modification work is going on in Guwahati, Tinsukia, Alipurduar and Siliguri railway stations and work in all the stations are at the final stages, Chanda added.

Another traveler said the changes will be good as visitors coming through the stations will get to see the rich heritage and culture of Tripura and know the history of the state.

Yogesh Kumar, a resident of from Punjab, said that many changes have been made in the railway station for the convenience of the passengers.

Last time, when he visited the station, there were no air-conditioners, now the same has been made available for passengers traveling from Agartala station, Kumar aded.
