While Cong names Ratan Das, ruling BJP introduces new face -- Mimi Majumder. Bulti Biswas will be Left Front’s choice for forthcoming by-polls for Badharghat seat
Agartala: Three political parties -- the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress and the Left Front -- have announced their candidates for the forthcoming by-elections for the Badharghat (SC) assembly constituency to be held on September 23.
A press release from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in New Delhi said that party president Sonia Gandhi has approved the candidature of Ratan Das, also the vice-president of the state unit of the Congress SC committee, for the by-elections.
Speaking at a press conference, senior vice-president Pijush Kanti Biswas said that the people of the state have already lost their faith from the 18 month-old BJP-IPFT government.
“People have been fooled by their fake promises and vision document prior to the 2018 state assembly elections. The state employees were promised to get DA and other allowances under the 7th Pay Commission. Not a single promise has been fulfilled by the government till date,” Biswas said.
The popularity of the BJP has also decreased in the past few months in state. The youth of the state are frustrated with no jobs and recruitment in state, he added.
Das filled his nomination papers in West Tripura district magistrate’s office on Tuesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the ruling BJP has announced Mimi Majumder as their candidate through a notification from New Delhi on Monday night.
BJP state spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacherjee said that Majumder is a school teacher and also a dedicated worker of the party. “The tradition of family-oriented nomination is no more practised by the BJP,” he added.
Earlier, the Left Front had announced their candidate on August 30. Bulti Biswas, a sitting mayor in council of the Agartala Municipal Corporation, was chosen as the Left Front’s face for the Badharghat assembly constituency.
