Agartala: In a move to give further support to farmers of the state, the BJP-Indigenous People Front of Tripura (IPFT) government has initiated to set up 22 'Krishak Bandhu Kendras' (KBK), in addition to the 14 such centres already existing in the state.

Speaking with reporters, director of the state agriculture department, Dr DP Sarkar, said that the government will set up 22 KBKs across the state in addition to the 14 existing ones set up in January last year to give advice to farmers with an eye to doubling their income by using different scientific techniques.

“The scheme was taken up by the state government to help farmers develop the cultivation of crops. We will also guide them that what kind of cultivation they can do season-wise, to make them aware them about the Central and state government agriculture schemes, to give them details about the fertilizers and pesticides so that they can use them in a proper way. We are also giving them ideas about new machinery. Agriculture experts are there to help them,” he said.

He also said soil test facility in the existing KBKs has been provided so that farmers can test the soil of their farms.

“We are planning to set up the 22 KBKs before March next year. With this, we will be able to spread our services in the entire state. Farmers would earn more if they are able to use proper technology and guidance,” Sarkar added.
