Agartala: In a joint operation led by the BSF and Tripura police, a drugs smuggling racket was busted at Boxanagar under Kalamchera police station of Tripura's Sepahijala district on Tuesday morning.

As per a tip-off received by the intelligence branch about stocking of dry ganja and yaba tablets, security forces raided the house of a suspected drug smuggler Rameez Mia, 25, at Dakshin Para village, a BSF press release said.

The joint team reached the residence of Rameez Mia around 6 am and started the search operation. Miah tried to flee the spot but was apprehended by the team.

After two hours of search with the use of sniffer dogs and other electronic gadgets, the narcotics items were found stored in the basement under the concrete floor of the bedroom.

The search party also found Rs 11,75,850 cash and Bangladesh currency of 5,730 takas along with two mobile phones.

The seized contraband items were handed over to the Kalamchera police station by the BSF officials and a case under NDPS was registered against Rameez Mia, the notification added.
