Rebati Kumar Tripura, the saffron party’s candidate for East Tripura Lok Sabha constituency, was found to be spending funds over the fixed limit of Rs 70 lakh
Agartala: Rebati Kumar Tripura, the BJP candidate for East Tripura constituency, was served a show-cause notice by the Election Commission on Wednesday for exceeding the fixed limit allowed for spending election funds.
While serving the show-cause notice, Vikas Singh, the Dhalai district magistrate and East Tripura constituency’s Returning Officer, also asked Tripura to reply in the next two-three days.
Reacting on the notice, Tripura said that it was issued for a minor mistake that occurred during the poll campaign and it will be replied as soon as his agent receives it from the department.
Reacting on the issue, BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee said that the notice will be answered by the candidate soon. “This has happened because the price of commodities varies from one district to another. That is why this minor mistake might have happened. This is quite usual as every political party receives such notices during election campaigns,” he added.
Rebati Kumar Tripura is contesting the elections for the first time. Polling for the East Tripura constituency, which was earlier scheduled to be held on April 18, was deferred to April 23 following demands of deploying more CAPF personnel from the opposition parties of the state.
