Agartala: The Election Commission has taken an initiative for 100% webcasting of all polling booths in Tripura, state chief electoral officer (CEO) Sriram Taranikanti announced in Agartala on Wednesday.

As per Taranikanti, video viewing and surveillance teams would be deployed across the state to monitor activities inside the polling booths on the day of voting.

Accordingly, Tripura will be the only state to go to polls with 100% webcasting, the CEO added.

Meanwhile, state police observer MK Das, a retired director general of police in Manipur, has arrived in Agartala for inspecting the state election process. Two other observers, Dharmendra Singh Badhuria for East Tripura constituency and Nirav Kishore for West Tripura, are already in the state.

As per the CEO, a total 44 complaints have been received from different political parties. While the CPI-M topped the list with 22 complaints, it was followed by BJP with nine, the Congress with two and individuals with five complaints. Among them, two to three complaints were serious, for which the Election Commission has taken measures accordingly.

Taranikanti also said that verification is going on over the complaints filed against the use of Indian military success and wars for party’s propaganda since the advisory was issued by the Election Commission of India to make elections free and fair.

As far as poll security is concerned, the central armed police forces (CAPF) will be the first layer of the protection and security system, followed by the state police officials. The borders are also being surveyed by the BSF accordingly to make the areas safer.

Tripura will go to polls in two phases for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. While voting for West Tripura will be held on April 11, that for East Tripura will be conducted on April 18.
