Agartala: Thirty-five casual employees of the state forest department, whose services were terminated by the government in August, have threatened to commit suicide en masse.
Submitting a memorandum to the principal chief conservator of forests (PCCF) on Monday, the sacked employees vented their frustration and said, “We have knocked doors of senior officials and the minister concerned but in vain. We are left with no other option but to commit suicide unless the higher-ups consider our demand for reinstatement of jobs."
In August, 35 casual employees were terminated after a departmental order. Immediately after the order, the sacked employees staged several demonstrations and even took part in hunger strikes. However, every time, agitators had to return empty-handed.
With nothing more to hope for, the terminated employees on Monday met the PCCF and threatened to commit suicide en masse, if their demands were not met at the earliest.
